At Hestico, we are proud of our cutting-edge technology as well as the passions and pursuits of our dedicated team members. Recently, our very own Raymond Sinclair, a Service Technician from our Johannesburg office, participated in the grueling iLamuna Endurance Series 24-hour race at Red Star Raceway. Raymond, along with his team, the Tofuhunters, showcased remarkable resilience and teamwork, making this event a memorable adventure.

The Race at Red Star Raceway

Held over the weekend of November 2nd, the iLamuna Endurance Series brought together more than 60 vehicles in a test of endurance and skill. Sponsored by VMS Paints, this annual event saw the Tofuhunters’ 1983 Toyota Corolla competing fiercely under the Toyota Gazoo Racing banner for the second consecutive year.

Meet the Team

The Tofuhunters’ team consisted of Chad Lückhoff, Raymond Sinclair, Lawrence Minnie, and 2024 Toyota GR Cup champion Sean Nurse. With enhancements to their Corolla, the team improved their lap times significantly, closing the gap with the leading competitors by over 3.5 seconds.

Challenges and Triumphs

Despite starting from the pit lane due to unresolved starter issues, the Tofuhunters demonstrated exceptional spirit. They were awarded five bonus laps for their commendable “gees” (spirit), which propelled them to a leading position early in the race. The team executed rapid refueling stops and driver changes, maintaining their lead for a significant portion of the race.

However, the journey was not without its challenges. A brake change during the night, compounded by a snapped throttle cable, tested the team’s resolve. Yet, they persevered, regaining speed and posting their fastest lap in the early morning hours.

The Final Stretch

In the race’s final hours, the team faced a tough decision due to engine troubles. With a bearing knock threatening their finish, the Tofuhunters adopted a “never say die” attitude, sending Sean Nurse out for one last lap. The Corolla crossed the finish line in 21st position overall and 13th in class, an improvement over the previous year.

The Tofuhunters’ journey at the iLamuna Endurance Race exemplifies the spirit of endurance racing—pushing limits, overcoming obstacles, and celebrating every victory, big or small. Hestico is proud to support Raymond and his team in their pursuit of racing excellence.
